Cluny Clays – Ben’s Birthday

Standard

Clay Pidgeon Shooting

Moved on from the hills for a day this weekend as it was Ben’s birthday.  He had tried some Archery at a local fayre up in Dunfermline and wanted to try it again.  We were looking for somewhere indoors which would mean we could do it at this time of year whatever the weather and found a place called Cluny Clays in Cluny near Kirkcaldy in Fife.

They actually has a package which included Archery, Clay Pigeon shooting and air rifle shooting.  It’s Ben’s 10th birthday and he was a little concerned that the Clay Pidgeon shooting was a bit much for him but he wanted to try it anyway.  His cousin Jack came along with us and took part too.  I have to say we do recommend the place.  It was very well put together and the staff made you feel very relaxed but also safe (these are dangerous things we’re dealing with).  You do need to be 10 to take part but they have a play area for smaller children.

The clay pigeon shooting was very cool.  The boys got to fire a gun and this was a highlight for them.  The safe environment was excellent also.  Plus the instructor had a couple of shells left over and he gave myself and Carol a go.  Carol went first and shot the target straight away.  Jack and Ben had done pretty well so I was under pressure to hit that clay when it came out…luckily I managed to hit the thing!  Don’t think I would have lived it down if I’d missed it!

After an excellent session which lasted longer than billed at about 40 mins we headed for the archery.  Parents didn’t get a go this time (frankly we hadn’t paid for it!  ;-0).  The archery had some instruction and some practice time then down to some scoring rounds.  Ben had scored the most at the Clay pigeons so Jack was anxious to win one back at the archery and he did with a spectacular 17 in his final round ;-).

We finshed off the day with Air rifles.  The range they have onsite is very well equipped (not that I’m an expert on this stuff) but the kids were allowed to have free reign after a safety briefing.  The boys drew this one…which was great for bragging rights at the end!

Definintely recommended as a venue.  I would be a little concerned with the food though – it was nice but the portions were pretty tiny.  I don’t like when there is a ‘two for’ offer and they basically split a portion between two plates…but other than that the place was excellent.  Clay Pidgeon ShootingStaff very friendly, calm and patient with any level of skill.

We’ll go back again I believe…might also be very good for corporate functions also.  Ben’s favourite bit was the air rifle shooting as he was excellent at it…as was Jack!
